Giovanni continues to provide the toughest test in the game for trainers with his high CP Pokémon, which can quickly take you down if you are unprepared. To combat this, you must use a team that counters his and is super-effective against the Pokémon he selects. To beat Giovanni in , you first need to have beaten several Grunts before facing the GO Rocket Leaders, Sierra, Arlo, and Cliff. Once you have done this, you will be rewarded with the Super Rocket Radar, allowing you to find his hiding spot by spinning PokéStops and Gyms.
Giovanni has made one change to the January 2025 team in . This sees the return of the powerful Shadow Palkia to his team as his final Pokémon. The Dragon- and Water-type is one of the strongest Pokémon in the game and only has two weaknesses, making it vital that you set up your team to give you the best possible chance of defeating it. He will again have three waves of Pokémon, with one of three options selected as his second choice in each battle.
