Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Legion) has entered negotiations to reprise his MonsterVerse role as Trapper in Legendary’s untitled sequel. His character first appeared last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, where he was introduced as a laid back veterinarian working for Monarch.
Should Stevens’ casting be finalized, he would be joining Golden Globe nominee Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), who was the first new cast member set to join the newest installment of the blockbuster franchise. Further details about her character are still currently under wraps.
The Godzilla x Kong sequel will be directed by Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) from a screenplay written by Dave Callaham. The film will reportedly feature “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.” It is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 26, 2027.
Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise began in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, which starred Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Following its success, it was followed by several sequels, including 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong. In addition, the studio has also partnered up with Netflix for an animated Skull Island show that premiered on Netflix in 2023. Besides continuing to expand its film franchise, Legendary is also currently working on its Apple TV+ spin-off series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which is slated to return for a second season.
