For years, Apple has spearheaded the tablet market, and with the launch of its 11-inch and 13-inch M4 iPad Pro models, the company is expected to extend that lead. However, as Huawei is putting pressure on iPhone shipments in China, it is exerting the same threat on Apple’s OLED tablet range. According to the latest data, the Chinese technology firm attained a 25 percent global market share.
Even though Huawei has secured second place, Display Supply Chain Consultants’ latest data reveals that the company has a ton of ground to cover before Apple really starts getting about its top spot. According to the latest figures, the Cupertino giant accounted for 47 percent of Q1 2024 OLED tablet shipments, with Samsung grabbing third place with a 17 percent market share after being beaten by Huawei. Overall, the first quarter of 2024 was exceptional as far as tablet shipments go, as these devices recorded a 131 percent year-over-year growth.
The second quarter should see a similar result regarding tablet shipments, with Apple once again leading the front with an estimated 246 percent jump compared to the previous quarter, with Huawei, Microsoft and Samsung all said to witness growth during this period. While Huawei is expected to maintain its second position, the latest data predicts that its market share will slip to 13 percent, while Apple will dominate the OLED tablet space with a 72 percent market share.
As for which particular model is said to lead the OLED tablet market, DSCC mentions that it is the larger 13-inch M4 iPad Pro, with the overall tally reaching 1.72 million shipments for the first quarter.
