The Roof is the portion of a Vampire Castle in V Rising that protects its interior, sheltering its residents and Structures within from the harmful rays of sunlight. It replaces the Mist Brazier's function of blocking out the daylight, allowing players to move freely through their homes without the need to spend Bones as fuel. From a roleplay perspective, the player's base is essentially no more than a large campsite in V Risingwithout an overhead ceiling. However, having a Roof over one's head can increase the morale of one's clan or even a solo player, giving the hub compound a home-like feel to its atmosphere.
Oddly enough, there is no way to «build» a Roof in V Rising. Instead, the sheltering canopy generates on its own, without any need for placement or resource consumption. Still, specific conditions will need to be met before a Roof automatically appears over one's Castle. To get started, Vampire players must reach the 14th Journal Quest of the main campaign, "Building a Castle."

After constructing a Research Desk and upgrading the Castle Heart, Vampires of V Rising will receive the quest, "Building a Castle," during which they are tasked with making their base a more "fitting place to rest, to recover, to rule."
According to the quest objective's description in V Rising, players can generate a Roof by creating a «Confined Castle Room.» To perform this task, Vampires must first surround the enclosure they wish to shelter with Reinforced Walls, «Castle Wall» Structures constructed using Stone Brick ×10 and Plank ×6 each.
