Multiple Team Rocket grunt teams can be battled in during May 2024, but the team is tricky to beat since they try to hide what type of creatures they use. It can be hard to pick counters for these opponents when you aren't sure what Pokémon are on their roster. However, deciphering an unlikely clue can give you the hint you need for victory.
Unlike the leaders of Team Rocket like Cliff or Arlo in , grunts have teams of a single type rather than a combination of unique creatures. Grunt teams also have a roster of three Pokémon who are randomly determined as the fight begins. While leaders usually have one or two regular companions on their team, you have to prepare for more options when facing normal grunts.
Every Team Rocket grunt team typically has a very obvious type of Pokémon they use, but the fact thatgrunts use Ghost-type Pokémon is not quite as clear at first. The name of this team refers to the haunting chuckle made by some Ghost-type creatures. The only time you hear the team name to get this clue comes from the opening sentence this Team Rocket group says as a battle starts.
Other Team Rocket grunt teams have straightforward reveals of their team's type during their initial statement made before a battle. For example, the grunts that use Bug-type Pokémon say which is a very clear indication of which type to expect.
Ghost-types are a departure from other Pokémon seen on the teams of the leaders, even those wielded by the Team Rocket leader Giovanni in . Although you should anticipate Ghost-type Pokémon the moment you identify specific grunts as the team, there are some exceptions. Each slot of this grunt team has a chance of sending out one of three Pokémon who could have additional types that catch you off guard.
