A futuristic PlayStation controller appears in a new video released by Sony during the company’s corporate strategy meeting today.
Sony used the annual event to define its “Creative Entertainment Vision,” which it describes as its long-term vision for where it “wants to be in 10 years, with an eye towards future technological advances”.
The video, which is viewable below, includes a brief look at a futuristic gaming controller being used to control a character soaring through space.
“Ten years from now, we will be living in a more multi-layered world where physical and virtual realities overlap without boundaries,” reads the official description accompanying the video.
“If Sony, as a creative entertainment company, would be filling the world with new Kando in that future, what kind of experiential value would we be offering to make that happen?
“To explore this question, we conducted a prototyping exercise under the concept of ‘Creative Entertainment Vision.’ Envisioning through the lens of Sony’s creativity and technology, here we present the future as an extension of our lives today.”
Sony said there are three phases in its Creative Entertainment Vision. In its own words, these are:
1) Harnessing technology to unleash the creativity of creators around the world, transcending physical, virtual and time dimensions.
2) Connecting diverse people and values across boundaries to foster vibrant communities.
3) Together with creators, creating exciting experiences rich in narrative that go beyond imagination, and spreading them as new touchpoints for Kando around the world.
Sony said last week that it shipped 4.5 million PS5 consoles during the three months ended in March, taking its lifetime total to 59.3 million.
Ahead of the publication of its financial results, Sony Interactive Entertainment named Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino as the new joint CEOs of the PlayStation business.
