How I Met Your Father Creators Tease More HIMYM Main Cast Cameos

The creators of How I Met Your Father tease even more cameos from the original How I Met Your Mother cast in the upcoming season 2. The series, which is a spinoff that takes place in the How I Met Your Mother universe, follows Sophie (Kim Cattrall) telling her son about her experiences dating as a young woman (Hilary Duff) in New York in 2022. Season 1, which also stars Suraj Sharma, Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, Daniel Augustin, Ashley Reyes, and Drake and Josh star Josh Peck, premiered on Hulu in January 2022.
Although How I Met Your Father has featured plenty of Easter eggs from the original series, including its core apartment location and cameos from Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Bell Bundy, the show held off on bringing in one of the main cast members until the very last minute. The season finale, which aired on March 15, 2022, featured a surprise cameo from Cobie Smulders as her original character Robin Scherbatsky. Although she is somewhere between the timeline of the How I Met Your Mother final season and the future set up for her in the finale's epilogue, she is in a great place in her career and offers Sophie some much-needed advice.

During an interview with co-creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, TVLine asked about the potential for more characters to appear in How I Met Your Father season 2. Aptaker responded coyly, saying that they purposefully only had Robin mention her friends in passing and not by name because "we wanted to only give out exactly enough information that was necessary."
