How I Met Your Father Cameos Makes Every HIMYM Character Better

How I Met Your Father’s cameos by HIMYM characters aren’t just exciting crossovers, as they also work to give better, more accurate representations of the original figures. Just as HIMYM told Ted’s ultimate love story from his own memory and perspective, How I Met Your Father’s long tale comes from the recollections of Future Sophie in 2050. While repeating the unreliable narrator device in How I Met Your Father inevitably leads to Sophie committing many of Ted’s memory errors or subjective portrayals, Sophie’s story still works alongside Ted’s to give a more accurate and holistic representation of the HIMYM universe’s events and characters.
After much speculation over whichHIMYM characters would return to meet the new gang in season 1 of Hulu’s spinoff series, episodes 9 and 10 finally brought back four familiar faces. How I Met Your Father’s episodes saw Future Sophie tell the tale of The Captain and Becky’s divorce, which finally solves the Pineapple Incident mystery in-universe while connecting to the return of her Tinder date, Ian. The series also saw present-day Sophie wander into MacLaren’s Pub, where she met Carl the Bartender and iconic HIMYM character Robin Scherbatsky in How I Met Your Father’s season 1 finale.
