Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a Dungeons & Dragons session and thought to yourself, "goddamn, I wish I could play as a character that is completely randomly generated in a campaign that is pre-determined and costs real-life money to play!" If you have, then I'm not sure TTRPGs are the right thing for you. But at least you'll be the target market for one of the latest NFT game ventures, Gripnr.
Gripnr will allow players to buy NFT characters for their D&D adventure, and play on the blockchain. The blockchain will be used to keep track of progress, keeping records of the adventure and the players' stats. That's if you don't mind the fact that you'll have to pay a couple of gas fees each game to keep it running, or that the creators haven't figured out how they'll prevent fraud from taking place, as we've seen in other NFT communities.

As noted in the report by Gizmodo, which extensively dives into what Gripnr will mean in practice, the only real difference to playing on the blockchain is that you can sell your NFT character at the end of a campaign. This is because increasing its stats would presumably make it more valuable. In other words, Gripnr is likely to appeal to those who want to play TTRPGs to earn real-life money, which is a hard sell to fans who have played for years without a financial incentive.
The first campaign, The Glimmering, is set to launch sometime in the spring. It will see 10,000 NFTS go on sale, which will consist of characters across 12 different classes.
So far, it doesn't seem like the project is endearing itself to the TTRPG community, however, as project leaders are contending with angry replies from fans on Twitter.
