Notorious rapper, singer, producer, and clothing designer Kanye West reportedly wanted to expand his repertoire by developing a game with none other than Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto. Rappers becoming involved in the world of gaming is not unheard of, especially in recent years. Perhaps the most notable contemporary example of this would be last year's GTA Online The Contract DLC, which came to fruition after Dr. Dre was "blown away" by GTA V, as reported by DJ Pooh.
Musicians have gotten involved with the gaming world in more subtle ways as well, even if Nintendo itself has steered mostly clear of celebrity collaborations within its games. Popular artists like Travis Scott and Ariana Grande made waves when they appeared in Fortnite not only as playable characters, but as themselves performing a "live" concert for players. Snoop Dogg graced the Call of Duty community with his presence just earlier this year, appearing as a playable operator in both Warzone and Vanguard, complete with his own weapons and cosmetics. The phenomenon of rappers in games dates back before the 2010s as well, with 50 Cent famously helming his own video game duology in the 2000s.

While gamers in 2022 are more concerned with things like which Zelda game is coming to Switch next, the famous Japanese gaming giant's modern legacy could have turned out much differently, as renowned Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto was reportedly pitched a game by Kanye West in 2015.
