Hogwarts Legacy is the US market’s best-selling game of the year so far, according to data covering up until the end of November, but newly-released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is on its tail.
According to data published by Circana (NPD) executive director Mat Piscatella, Modern Warfare 3 is already the US’s second best selling game of the year, despite launching alongside the series’ worst ever reviews.
That means Modern Warfare 3 has already outsold The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in the US, as well as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Madden NFL 24, and Diablo IV, in just its first weeks on sale.
Call of Duty is regularly the US’s best-selling annual game. Should Hogwarts Legacy remain on top, it would be the first non-Call of Duty or Rockstar game in 15 years to top the US sales charts since Wii Play in 2008.
Globally, Hogwarts Legacy has surpassed 15 million sales and grossed over $1 billion, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.

The rest of the year’s current top ten sellers are made up of the previous Call of Duty release, Modern Warfare 2, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Mortal Kombat 1, Starfield and Resident Evil 4.
According to Circana, Modern Warfare 3 was the best-selling game of November, marking the fifth consecutive year that a Call of Duty title has topped this month (Red Dead Redemption II ranked 1st in Nov 2018).
Hogwarts Legacy ranked third in November, driven by the launch of the Nintendo Switch version.
According to Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker, Call of Duty HQ (which includes Modern Warfare 3) ranked 2nd in monthly active users across both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles November, behind only Fortnite.
