Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding‘screator,Hideo Kojima, is renowned for his love of cinema, and now he’s finally releasing his first movie. Connecting Worlds will be a documentary that’s billed as “a journey into the creative mind of the most iconic video game creator in the world.”
The film will feature interviews with many of his friends and colleagues, including (but not limited to) Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro, director Nicholas Winding Refn, Mad Max‘s George Miller, Death Stranding star Norman Reedus, Woodkid, Chvrches, and Grimes. According to the synopsis, it’ll be a full Kojima biography, taking us from his childhood, through his video game career encompassing hits like Metal Gear, Snatcher, and Policenauts, and showing him launching his own independent studio, Kojima Productions.
The premiere will take place on June 17 as part of the Tribeca Film Festival, with the night seeing Kojima himself appear on stage for a Q&A session. Presumably, it will then go on to have a wider release, and we can’t wait to check it out.
Other than that, Kojima is hard at work on Death Stranding 2, which was unveiled last year in a stunning trailer. Beyond that, word is there’s a horror game in some form of development — and no doubt a bunch of other brain-bending projects in the pipeline.
If you’d like a taste of that trademark Kojima creativity, Death Stranding is currently free on the Epic Games Store and delivers the craziest and most compulsive apocalyptic package delivery game to date.
