Helldivers 2 is an extremely popular game, far more than probably either Arrowhead or Sony hoped for. That said, it isn't perfect, and the developers are well aware of that.
In a series of very frank posts on Reddit, Helldivers 2 Game Director and Arrowhead founder Johan Pilestedt wrote:
We are optimizing our processes and hiring devs to boost the team. But 100 is still a decent size for a development team, and we are aware of the issues in the releases - we will do better in the future.
We want to deliver the best in the industry and we are calibrating our efforts of fixing vs new stuff. It's easy to say "just fix, don't add", but the reality of the competitiveness in this industry is that we have to do both to stay relevant.
We are figuring it out. The demands and expectations on the studio is high, all eyes are on us, and we have a sole purpose - to make this the best live game you've ever played. We just need to find our stride and balance. It's a hot topic at the studio, and I'm sorry for the sloppy mistakes we've made as of recent.
As Pilestedt noted, the other side of the coin of Helldivers 2's outstanding success (it is currently outselling Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in the UK, for example) is that the game is now subject to much greater scrutiny. However, Arrowhead is now hiring to expand the team and deliver a better, more polished game over time.
A few days ago, the developers released a new Premium Warbond (the game's equivalent to a Battle Pass) called Democratic Detonation. It adds the BR-14 Adjudicator Assault Rifle, the R-36 Eruptor Bolt Action Rifle, the CB-9 Exploding Crossbow, the G-123 Thermite Grenade, the GP-31 Grenade Pistol, and three new armors (CE-07 Demolition Specialist for light armor, CE-27 Ground Breaker for medium armor, and FS-55 Devastator for heavy armor) to Helldivers 2. Just like previous Premium Warbonds, it'll set you back 1,000 Super Credits.
