Goodfellas is based on a true story, and as such, it mentions some real-life gangsters (though the names of the majority were changed), especially in the “meet the crew” scene at the Bamboo Lounge – and here’s every gangster Henry Hill quickly introduces in Goodfellas’ Bamboo Lounge scene. Although Martin Scorsese has explored different genres in his career as a filmmaker, he’s best known for his gangster movies, and the one widely considered as his best is Goodfellas, released in 1990 and based on the book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi.
Goodfellas tells the story of mob associate Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), from his days as a teenager running errands for Paul Cicero (Paul Sorvino) and his crew in his Brooklyn neighborhood to his full involvement with the Lucchese crime family and his decision to become an FBI informant. During his time in the mob, Henry met some of the most notable gangsters at the time, with some of them playing a big role in his story, as were Jimmy “The Gent” Conway (Robert De Niro) and Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci), and many others were casually mentioned as well.
