SIE Santa Monica Studio has made it abundantly clear that even though God of War Ragnarok ended the series’ Norse saga, God of War itself is far from over, which is something that most would have guessed anyway. Interestingly enough, however, the studio’s next project might not be a God of War game after all, as opposed to what some may have been expecting.
Spotted by a ResetEra user, the LinkedIn page of a developer working with Santa Monia Studios as a character supervisor indicates that the developer is currently working on an entirely new IP. “Santa Monica Studios presented the opportunity of coming back as Character Supervisor, looking after the entire Character Development pipeline, on their new IP, so here I am, thrilled to be back, working again with the crew and pushing Characters in videogames together,” the LinkedIn page reads.
That SIE Santa Monica is working on an unannounced new title has been made clear by several job ads in recent years, while leaks have suggested that the game is a new IP led by Cory Barlog, who directed 2018’s God of War, but did not serve in the same capacity on 2022’s God of War Ragnarok, with Eric Williams stepping in as the sequel’s director.
Whether that means the project that Barlog is leading is a new IP is anyone’s guess- though if that is the case, that would raise the question of what the future holds for the God of War franchise.
