HBO CEO Casey Bloys has given an update on the reportedly in the works.
Speaking during a press event on Tuesday, Bloys did confirm that a movie is forthcoming. However, he stressed that it’s more in the development stages than actually being fully fleshed out. Bloys considered the project more of an idea that has to be developed before it can be realized.
Bloys said that Warner Bros. studio chiefs Michael DeLuca and Pamela Abdy were working on the project. He also said that author George R.R. Martin would be involved in the creative process, but didn’t expand on just what that would entail.
“They’re going to develop [an] idea,” Bloys said (via Variety). “We’ll see if it’s good. We’ll read the scripts along with them. I think it could be fun and interesting. I mean, that’s the point of development, you see is there a story that’s worthy of being in theaters and a big spectacle? I think it would be fun.”
Since the main HBO show based on Martin’s iconic book series ended, we’ve seen two prequels come to fruition. House of the Dragon has aired two seasons (with a third on the way), and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will arrive in 2025.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is based on George R. R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novella. The short tale centers on Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), set a hundred years before the events of the main series. The series is expected to run for six episodes.
