The sci-fi animated series Futurama is making a highly anticipated return with its revival on Hulu. The streaming service has released the first teaser for the upcoming season--which, yes, looks just like the Futurama you may remember.
The new season, officially considered the show's eighth season but also known as Season 11, is set to premiere on July 24. Following the debut, weekly episodes will be released every Monday, totaling 10 installments for Season 8. Hulu commissioned a total of 20 episodes for the revival in February 2022.
Futurama has seen previous resurrections after its original run in 1999. Following a successful four-season stint on Fox, the show found new life through reruns on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim and DVD releases. Four direct-to-video films were produced and later re-edited into a fifth season that aired on Comedy Central in 2008. Comedy Central aired two more seasons, each consisting of 26 episodes, between 2010 and 2013.
The official synopsis for the new season promises a fresh start for new viewers while also addressing long-standing mysteries. Fans can look forward to the developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, revelations about Nibbler's litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and updates on Kif and Amy's tadpoles. Additionally, the season will explore futuristic themes such as vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV in the face of a new pandemic.
The original voice cast, including Billy West, Katey Sagal, and other familiar names, will reprise their roles in the revival. Notably, John DiMaggio, known for his iconic portrayal of Bender, initially wasn't part of the new episodes but announced his involvement in March 2022.
