Nexon is building on its surprise free-to-play hit The First Descendant with the PS5, PS4 title's first major update, which drops today. The big headline addition is the arrival of two new Descendants to play as, complemented by another hard mode Void Intercept Battle and a bonus ultimate piece of equipment named the Peace Maker. There will be a variety of new skins and make-up options too alongside some technical improvements and bug fixes. You can view the full list of patch notes through the link.
The two new playable Descendants take the form of Ultimate Valby and Luna. The former is an ult version of the standard Valby, and she comes with attacks like Spiral Tidal Wave and Hyrdo Pressure Bomb. There'll then be a whole host of new materials to scavenge for her. We then have Luna, a completely new character, whose abilities work to the beat of the music. Depending on the skill you activate, a different type/genre of music will play.
A new hard mode Void Intercept Battle will be on offer after downloading the update, against Gluttony. Beating it rewards you with the Hungry Sonic External Components Set and a blueprint for a new ultimate weapon: the Peace Maker. Using an effect called Single Reload for Peace, you can «fire the loaded ammo in a single quick burst when taking an aimed shot» after reaching the maximum number of stacks.
The patch is also making some improvements under the hood for both PS5 and PS4. For Sony's current-gen system, AMD FSR 3.1 has been applied while the PS4 should better use its memory allocation and the resolution should be about five per cent better. There are many more tweaks you can learn about in the patch notes.
Having attracted more than 10 million players since launch and becoming one of the most played games on PS5, new content will be welcome for its large playerbase. Will you be firing up The First Descendan to check out what its first big update offers? Let us know in the comments below.
