Fortnite's March 19 update added three items to the battle royale's sandbox in the Chains of Hades, Shield Bubble Jr, and Drum Gun. Technically, all three of these items are new to Fortnite, as the new iteration of the Drum Gun is a separate weapon from its predecessor, although there are still plenty of similarities.
The recentFortnite update, dubbed the Rise of Midas, added plenty of other features as well. Players can now participate in the Rise of Midas Quests, which unlock three rewards including a back bling, glider, and spray. However, like other mid-season Fortnite quests, they are split into multiple phases with only the first phase being available at this time. Additionally, the update introduced a limited-time mode, which is a new edition of the fan-favorite Floor is Lava playlist. This mode also has its own quests that can be completed for in-game rewards.
Some of the update's most major additions are its three new items. The Chains of Hades is a new Olympian Power that allows the user to pull enemies towards them with a ranged hook attack, after which they can use the item's close-range attack combo to deal significant damage. The second item is the Shield Bubble Jr, a new, miniature version of Fortnite's Shield Bubble. This utility item can be thrown to place a transparent dome that blocks gunfire and projectiles, both incoming and outgoing. As its name suggests, the dome is substantially smaller than the previous version. The final item is the new Drum Gun, which sports a slightly updated look from the older iteration that was last seen in Season OG. The weapon is now classified as an SMG and features new stats.
The original Drum Gun was a popular weapon regarded as one of the best guns in Fortnite history.
