ComingSoon is debuting an exclusive poster, which was designed by director José Lourenço and artist Simon Wilkinson. Following its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, the latest romantic comedy movie is now available to rent or own on digital platforms starting today.
The Young Werther poster mimics a love note that one would carry folded in one’s pocket. Another incredible detail is that the text of the book the film is based on — The Sorrows of Young Wether — was turned into the poster’s textured background. It celebrates the romance film’s Valentine’s Day release on digital.

“While on a simple errand to Toronto, a carefree and charming young writer named Werther stumbles across the love of his life only to discover that the young woman is engaged,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “Despite the urgings of his hypochondriac best friend, Werther turns his world upside down in a desperate, misguided, and hilarious quest to win her heart.”
Young Werther was written and directed by filmmaker José Avelino Gilles Corbett Lourenço, based on the 1774 tragic romance novel The Sorrows of Young Wether by Johann Wolfgang Goethe. The cast includes Douglas Booth (My Salinger Year) as the titular writer, Alison Pill as Charlotte (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Iris Apatow (This is 40) as Sissy, Patrick J. Adams (Suits) as Albert, Amrit Kaur (The Sex Lives of College Girls) as Melanie, Jaouhar Ben Ayed (No Man’s Land) as Paul, and more.
In addition to leading the cast, Booth was also serving as an executive producer alongside Jonathan Bross, Andy Wang, Dave Mepham, Matthew E. Chausse, Mason Novick, Joe Simpson, and Simon Williams. It was produced by Matt Code. Since making its theatrical release last December, the film has received a Tomatometer rating of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 23 reviews.
