A Dune Awakening Direct has been hosted by Funcom today, going into details about its upcoming survival MMO that will be released for PC and consoles. Arrakis is the core setting of Dune Awakening, and it will be a test for all players. The survival of the game starts from the very basic of where to find water and food, to moving upward in the political sphere and trying to survive that. You can watch the full broadcast below.
Building the world of Dune Awakening has been a collaborative endeavour between Funcom and Legendary Pictures, so there is a consistency in vision and style between the films and the game. The game has been built using Unreal Engine 5, and the lighting of Lumen has been a core part of the world’s visual detail. Unreal Engine 5 was also used as a visual point of reference for the films too. A brand new trailer has also been released showing survival, traversal, combat and crafting elements of the game.
The first experience of encountering the small sandworms is when you first step onto the sand and hear the hiss of movement to when they erupt from the sand, with players only having seconds to get to rocky ground. The bigger worms exist further into the game, with those being able to take out entire machines. Worms are just one threat to the player, and they are unkillable. Sandstorms are another danger, along with the heat and sunlight. Water will always be needed to survive, and if you run out you will die quickly. You can find water, eat plant fibers, and even drink the blood of fallen enemies to nourish yourself.
Crafting is also a core part of Dune Awakening from the basics of clothing and weapons, to having bases and machines that can harvest resources and allow for better items to be built. You can work with friends to build bases, you can create blueprints of a base and sell them to other players on the game’s exchange so they can build quickly too.
