Dredge is a game full of mystery, intrigue, and fish. Whilst fishing will be your primary source of income when playing Dredge, those other two things help add some flair to an otherwise cosy fishing simulator. One of the earliest mysteries is these strange red lights that appear at night.
You will first be alerted to their existence either by witnessing them yourself when sailing around after dark, or when you receive a tip from Greater Marrow. Whichever it is, the game wants you to investigate – but should you? What awaits you in the dead of night? What should you bring? Let’s find out.

The ‘Red Lights’ in Dredge only appear at night, and they will appear in 5 key locations around the world. The first one you will spot is just behind Greater Marrow, and you should spot it every time you return to the dock if you get home a bit late after a prolonged fishing excursion.
Travelling to the lights is of course dangerous. Being out at night without the proper tools will surely lead to some unfortunate collisions with randomly spawning rocks. Not only that, but you are going to need some specialist equipment if you want to crack the mystery of the lights – something you won’t have at the start of the game.
Whilst the game is called Dredge, you don’t start the game with the ability to dredge. This is an unlockable you get fairly early on. Simply complete the starter quests in and around Great Marrow, and your ship will be upgraded. It’s that simple. Once you can Dredge, you can start to retrieve resources from the ocean’s depths. These can be used to unlock new things at the Dry Dock.
