The next Dragon’s Dogma 2 update will not address the performance issues plaguing the game, instead focusing on gameplay adjustments.
With a post on X/Twitter, CAPCOM confirmed that the next major update, which will go live later this month, will introduce some gameplay changes and tweaks, such as changes to the dragonsplague system, Pawns' behavior and dialogue, and others. The new update will also address an issue that caused escort quests to fail under certain circumstances and introduce a new option to zoom in on the faces of the Arisen and Pawns in the status screen and shops. As already mentioned, the next update won't sadly address the performance issues, which are definitely among the biggest issues of the game.
While the experience is undoubtedly brought down by several issues, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is still a solid action RPG that has a lot to offer to fans of the series and of the genre in general. Sadly, the second entry in the series created by Hideaki Itsuno focuses only on refining the formula of its predecessor, resulting in a game that feels more like a reboot than a proper sequel, as highlighted by Alessio in his review.
This review may read quite negatively, but it's only because of the lofty expectations that surrounded Dragon's Dogma 2. The original game was an amazing foundation to build upon, and yet CAPCOM seemed content with keeping the same strengths without improving much on the weaknesses. Twelve years later, though, the effect cannot be the same. Still, make no mistake: Dragon's Dogma 2 is a highly enjoyable fantasy action/adventure with RPG elements that will provide you with about 40 hours of pure fun. Its peerless sense of exploration, meaty combat system, and stunning visuals will motivate you throughout the entire playthrough. Just don't expect to find a fantasy world simulator or, indeed, a narrative worth remembering.
