Controversies surrounding microtransactions notwithstanding, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has got off to an impressive start since its release a couple of days ago. The open world action RPG has enjoyed widespread acclaim from critics, currently sitting at an OpenCritic score of 89, and has also attracted players in droves. Immediately upon release, the game became Capcom’s biggest-ever single player launch on Steam, and its numbers have kept on steadily climbing since then.
As per SteamDB, at the time of writing, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has surpassed a peak of 227,000 concurrent players. The only Capcom games that have enjoyed higher peaks are Monster Hunter World (334,684) and Monster Hunter Rise (231,360), and it’s likely that Dragon’s Dogma 2 ends up surpassing at least the latter in the very near future.
Capcom has said that it is working on addressing the game’s performance issues on PC, and that it’s looking to add the ability to start a new save within the game itself.
In our review of Dragon’s Dogma 2, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a landmark release for open world action RPGs. From its thoroughly immersive world and its stellar combat to the incredible emergent gameplay its bevy of systems enable, Capcom’s long-anticipated sequel delivers spectacularly in more ways than one. By definition, it’s going to turn some people off with its many eccentricities, but it’s those eccentricities exactly that make it such an utterly unique and unforgettable experience.” Read the full review through here.
