The Super Mario Bros. Movie is hitting theaters soon, but should you stick around after the credits roll? One of the movie's stars, Chris Pratt, has revealed a key piece of information about this. Spoilers follow below.
In an interview with CBR, Pratt, who voices Mario, said there is a post-credits scene, and that it offers a glimpse at what a potential sequel could be. «Listen, there's like, at the end of the film, there's a post-credit sequence that gives you a taste of what the sequel could be about. And that gets me very, very excited,» Pratt said.
Also in the interview, Pratt said he would love to see a Mario Golf-inspired sequel, with Luigi voice actor Charlie Day agreeing. «I would definitely like to see that. That'd be good.»
Pratt and Day are golfers in real life. Perhaps joking, Day said that he and Pratt could «do our research» for a Mario Golf movie at Augusta National, the site of the Masters tournament in April that takes place the same weekend that The Super Mario Bros. Movie releases in theaters.
Pratt added that there has «been talk of» another Mario universe movie themed around the GameCube game Luigi's Mansion. «I think that would be great,» Pratt said.
Beyond a sequel to the main series, there might be a Donkey Kong spin-off featuring Seth Rogen coming back to voice the character in his own dedicated film, but nothing is confirmed at this stage.
In addition to Pratt, Day, and Rogen, The Super Mario Bros. Movie features Anya Taylor-Joy as the voice of Peach and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. Jack Black voices Bowser.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie releases in theaters on April 5. It is expected to put up huge numbers at the box office and could become among the highest-grossing video game movies of all time.
