The official soundtrack for The Super Mario Bros Movie is now available to stream on digial music services.
The soundtrack consists of 37 tracks, at a total running time of 1 hour and 28 minutes.
35 of the tracks were composed by Brian Tyler, who previously scored Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, seven Fast & Furious movies and The Expendables trilogy, and co-composed The Avengers: Age of Ultron with Danny Elfman.
The other two tracks are Peaches – Bowser’s song, which was written by Jack Black – and the Mario Brothers Rap from ’90s cartoon The Super Mario Bros Super Show, which features in the movie.
Those looking for a physical release of the soundtrack will have to visit iam8bit, which is currently taking pre-orders for a 2xLP vinyl set, as well as CD and cassette versions and a 7″ vinyl single of Peaches.
Although response to the film from professional critics has been mixed, many of those who gave the film positive reviews cited Tyler’s soundtrack as one of the reasons for this.
VGC’s own Super Mario Bros Movie review says: “From the moment you hear Mario’s iconic tunes as an orchestral, cinematic score, it’s impossible not to smile your way through this take on the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond.”
Among professional critics, the film currently stands at a 54% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. It appears to be doing notably better with movie-goers, however, with over 2,500 verified reviews on the site delivering a current average score of 96%.
The Super Mario Bros Movie is out in cinemas now in over 60 markets, including the US and UK. It stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Jack Black as Bowser and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad.
