Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
A detail from Doctor Strange showed how he was able to defeat Scarlet Witch 6 years later in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Sam Raimi's return to superhero filmmaking in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Doctor Stephen Strange very nearly meet his match. Faced with seemingly insurmountable odds, Strange was ultimately forced to defeat Earth-838's Darkhold-corrupted version of himself before using the book to dreamwalk into another of his corpses and save America from Scarlet Witch atop Mount Wundagore. Despite Earth-616's Doctor Strange only interacting with a version of the Darkhold for a short period of time, its corruptive powers were confirmed to work quickly, as Strange's third eye is revealed during Doctor Strange 2's closing scenes.
The Darkhold itself is a foreboding tome packed with sinister incantations, spells, and dark magical information, leading audiences to rightly query just how long both the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange had to study it (and master its spells). Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hints that Wanda has slowly been poisoned by the Darkhold for quite some time, but it appears that Strange only held the Darkhold for a matter of hours while using it to perform a particularly difficult dreamwalk — hardly enough time to learn all of its secrets. However, a forgotten detail from Doctor Strange holds the key to how he would ultimately defeat Scarlet Witch.
