Costume designer Graham Churchyard recently explained that Professor X's costume Easter egg in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was originally Kevin Feige's idea. The fantasy-horror film finds the titular hero jumping from one universe to another in an attempt to protect the young and inexperienced inter-dimensional being America Chavez (Xóchitl Gomez) from the Darkhold-corrupted Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). The film proved to be a massive success with audiences garnering over $900 million at the box-office, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2022.
As Doctor Strange and Chavez bounced from universe to universe, they eventually landed on Earth-838, a world without the Avengers. Instead, they are replaced by another superhero team of different heroes such as Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), and Professor X (Patrick Stewart). Although the mutant leader is portrayed by Stewart, the same actor who played him in the X-Men franchise, this Professor X resembled the 1992 X-Men animated version, complete with the yellow chair and the green suit.

Along with the recognizable yellow wheelchair, the designer stated that the character's green suit was directly pulled from the cartoon, down to the blue striped tie.
