Takahiro Yokota, a producer overseeing Digimon World: Next Order for Nintendo Switch, responded to a fan comment inquiring about the next game in the Digimon Story line. The comments came during Digimon Con 2024, a virtual event hosted by Bandai Namco. Yokota was part of a panel discussing the most recent games in the franchise.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of both the release of Digimon World to the PlayStation and the debut of the Digimon anime. Digimon Story made its debut in 2010 on the Nintendo DS, and has released some sequels over the years. Fans of the Digimon Story games have been clamoring for an update or hint as to the release of the next entry.
Yokota could not confirm nor deny the development of a new Digimon Story game. He was joined by Japanese voice actors Ken Ichijoji and Daisuke Motomiya, who both have starred in one or more Digimon animes. The panel and Con were held to generate excitement about the current state of Digimon, namely its 25th anniversary. Several Japanese voice actors participated as well, with the last dub of the Digimon Adventure anime released in 2023. Discussions during the panel ranged from talking about the top 10 fan-voted Digimon to mentioning obscure titles like Digimon Racing.
