Eidos Montreal, the Square Enix-owned studio, is aiding Playground Games on the upcoming Fable reboot, it's been confirmed.
Yesterday, during Microsoft's Xbox showcase, we finally received a gorgeous new gameplay trailer for Fable. As most of you will know, the reboot is being developed by Forza Horizon studio Playground Games, but as now confirmed, the British studio is being aided by Deux Ex studio Eidos Montreal. "Playground Games also confirmed its collaboration with Eidos Montreal, who will be supporting the ongoing development of Fable, which will be coming to players in 2025", Microsoft wrote on the official Xbox Wire yesterday. In addition, the official Eidos Montreal X account wrote the following: "We're so excited to be supporting the development of Fable! It's been a blast collaborating with the talented team at WeArePlayground to craft an unforgettable adventure".
Back in November 2022 we already reported on an article from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, which mentioned that the Deus Ex studio was doing support work on Playground's Fable. This rumor, however, wasn't officially confirmed - until now. Of course, another Square Enix studio - Crystal Dynamics - is aiding on The Initiative's Perfect Dark. As such, Eidos Montreal helping out on Fable does make sense.
Aside from the studio's work on the Deus Ex franchise, Eidos Montreal is known for developing 2014's splendid Thief, 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and the more recent Guardians of the Galaxy. Recent rumors suggest that, aside from aiding Playground on Fable, the studio is currently working on a new Deus Ex installment alongside a brand new IP.
We'll update you as soon as more information about the Fable reboot (which is slated for a release on PC and Xbox next year), or the new projects from Eidos Montreal come in. For now, stay tuned and discuss what you think about the studio helping out on
