Bungie has a new “State of the Game” letter for Destiny 2. This new letter comes ahead of this month’s Destiny 2 Showcase, but highlights some key updates to expect, goals, and more.
Previous letters have been released in February, which looked ahead with goals in preparation for the release of the Lightfall expansion. In April, the team looked back on how the launch went and laid out more of what they’re looking at in Lightfall’s first six months. Now, we’ve reached August, and aside from the wealth of reveals and new info that's going to come in the showcase later this month, the letter does address player feedback and make some good promises.
This month, we can expect some new PVP content, with new modes and maps. Multiplex will be an asymmetrical Vex map, released now since the Vex Network was important to Lightfall.More details on this map will come in the showcase. There is a new modifier designed around a focus on gunfights, a 6v6 party mode called Relic, and a number of improvements to matchmaking. Many of these changes will happen across Season 22, with more changes and new features in Season 23.
Seasons themselves are getting some tweaks, since Bungie's hope is that Seasons don't become too predictable and have unique appeal. We'll find out more in the showcase, but we can expect an emphasis on both narrative and gameplay.
