Bungie has officially announced the full selection of Artifact mods available to players in Season 20 of Destiny 2, though there are some big changes being made to how, exactly, players can leverage them in moment-to-moment gameplay. Season 20, which is also known as the Season of Defiance, is coming out alongside the Lightfall DLC, which means it's going to inherit many of its big changes and additions, too.
As part of its marketing push for the launch of the Lightfall DLC, Bungie confirmed the titles of future Destiny 2 seasons, which was fairly unprecedented as the developer had previously kept its seasonal cards close to its chest. Now, less than a week ahead of the release of Lightfall and Season 20 itself, Bungie has provided yet another comprehensive summary of what the players ought to expect.

It's a given that Destiny 2 is undergoing some very substantive changes with the Lightfall DLC, but the seasonal content is undergoing a big shift as well. Bungie's latest blog post specifically goes into detail on its new implementation of the Seasonal Artifact, a special item that's used to provide players with unique mods that could be slotted into select pieces of gear. As of Season 20, however, the Seasonal Artifact is going to be entirely passive, with mods turned into permanently active perks, 12 of which can be turned on simultaneously at any given time.
