Lightfall has arrived in Destiny 2 promising the beginning of the end of the Darkness vs. Light saga. And while Destiny 2’s arc will now begin its slow climb to an ultimate battle of good versus evil, it has also concluded a slow decline for one of the franchise’s most beloved characters, Cayde-6.
It’s been almost five years since Cayde-6 died during the events of Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion. That’s not spoilers anymore since not only is Forsaken years old, but it’s not even accessible in-game anymore due to content vaulting. And on top of that, Bungie has reworked both the Arms Dealer and Exodus Crash strikes to remove all of Cayde-6’s remaining voice lines. Forsaken gone and Cayde’s two remaining strikes revamped, there’s nothing left of him but his Exotic gun and his favorite ramen place.

But where Bungie takes away, it also gives. The Tower has been refurbished to fix the damage during Season of the Worthy. The strut Zavala used to stand on to stare at the Traveler has been replaced by a lovely tree, and beside that tree, a tribute to Cayde-6. It’s a bust on a platform with several recorded voice lines from Ikora, Zavala, Devlin, and Crow.
"Even departed sparks--like Cayde's--still leave a trace in this luminous web we call the Light," Ikora says upon a Guardian’s first interaction. Devlin will have some kind words to share as well, and Crow will remark how he’d wished to have met him, even though he’s largely replaced Cayde-6 as the Hunter NPC.
