Another formidable title joins the selection of games available to Netflix subscribers as part of their sub this October. The mighty Dead Cells arrives with Dead Cells: Netflix Edition set to arrive before the end of the month, October 31st to be precise.
This came out via a post on the Netflix site, so it’s on fairly good authority.
Non-subscribers, don’t panic! We checked on Google Play, and as far as we can tell the title is still for sale in its original place. This doesn’t look like a case of devs adding their title to the Netflix games roster at the expense of retiring its premium listing. We like the choice!
While it might arrive on Halloween, you don’t play Dead Cells for the scares. It’s a game far more about being the most dangerous thing in the area than being hassled by one. For all the monsters, you have no shortage of ways to fight back.
For any not yet converted, Dead Cells is a fiendish and addictive cross between a roguelike and a Metroidvania, a Roguevania, if you will.
It follows a sentient ball of supernatural sludge possessing a headless cadaver and apparently setting out to get revenge for both itself and its decapitated host as they take on the monsters of a mysterious and collapsing island kingdom.
It’s a challenging game, with each death sending your slime crawling back to the dungeons to find a new body to possess.
Some strange magic covers the island, and the structure may not be the same on the next journey as it was before. That’s where the ‘rogue’ part comes in, along with the selection of potential weapons and upgraded you can choose between each level.
Dead Cells: Netflix Edition hits October 31st, though if you can’t wait that long you can pick up the premium version now on Google Play.
