DC Universe Online comes out on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season, developer Dimensional Ink Games has announced.
The long-running free-to-download MMO launches on both consoles in native form, and the development team is working on gameplay and quality of life improvements to go alongside the upgrade. Expect some of these improvements to launch over the next few months before the release on current-gen consoles, and some next year.
No matter which version you play, you’re still playing on the same servers with your same characters and friends, Dimensional Ink Games reassured. All purchases and achievements remain if you choose to upgrade. All you need to do is log in with the same PSN or Xbox account once you’ve downloaded the game on your console.
Dimensional Ink Games failed to mention the Xbox Series S in its announcement. It seems unlikely this upgrade is set for Xbox Series X only, but IGN has asked for clarification.
DC Universe Online first launched in January 2011 for PC and PlayStation 3, before coming out in November 2013 on PlayStation 4, then in April 2016 on Xbox One, and in August 2019 on Nintendo Switch. The Xbox One version is already playable on Xbox Series X and S via backwards compatibility, and the PS4 version is playable on the PS5.
Episode 46: Justice League Dark Cursed launches this October. This event offers normal and elite versions of On Duty content, with level-agnostic event versions available for a limited time. Expect open-world missions, a solo, an alert, and a raid, as well as famous DC characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman, Zatanna, John Constantine, Deadman, and Hecate.
