While Jon Kent has successfully transitioned into being the new Superman, he has yet to outgrow the shadow cast by his father. But DC Comics' upcoming crossover Dark Crisis presents such an opportunity for the young lad. This is not meant to be a knock against Jon Kent or his run thus far as the new Superman, but with Clark Kent being the first to don the cape 84 years ago, the original is naturally going to cast a heavy shadow over whoever follows him. Jon doesn't have to be a better Superman than his old man, but he does still need a moment in his run that helps distinguish himself from the original.
Dark Crisis will serve as a follow-up to Justice League #75 arriving in April, which will feature the story «Death of the Justice League.» Dark Crisis evokes the spirit of classic DC events like Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis, and Final Crisis. Some of the original Superman's best moments can be found in this trilogy of Crises alone; moments like him taking on dastardly foes like Superboy-Prime and Darkseid. To say that Superman shines brightest in a Crisis is an understatement.

Dark Crisis is set to be written by Joshua Williamson with art from Daniel Sampere, who via Twitter gave readers a closer preview artwork from the first issue of the impending crossover. In this image, Jon Kent is admiring a commemorative statue of the fallen heroes behind the Justice League, specifically of the first Superman. The shadow of the first Superman is quite literally looming over his son in Dark Crisis, but the comic also offers the opportunity for Jon Kent to step out of that shadow once and for all.
