FromSoftware has announced that it will be switching off the online servers for Dark Souls 2. This will affect the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, meaning that all online play for Dark Souls 2 will cease on those platforms. The date of the server shutdown has been confirmed as March 31st, 2024.
In a statement on X/Twitter, the studio said, “The Dark Souls 2 PS3 and Xbox 360 servers will shut down on March 31, 2024. A message stating that online play is disabled will be displayed. Offline play will still be possible. PC, PS4 & Xbox One servers will not be affected. Thank you to those who have played since launch.”
Dark Souls 2 first released in 2014 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. A year later is was followed by a remaster called Dark Souls 2: Scholars of the First Sin, bringing the game to PS4 and Xbox One. The game was a critical success, and sold well too. While this shutdown only affects the PS3 and Xbox 360 servers, it is likely that in the near future FromSoftware will turn off the online servers for Dark Souls 2 on PS4 and Xbox One.
