The history of video games is something that many should look at for multiple reasons. Not the least, it can show you the interesting paths titles have taken over the years to where they are now. For example, Bandai Namco is set to release the latest entry in their fighting game series via Tekken 8. The game will be a multi-platform launch across the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the PC. However, Sony decided to use the PlayStation Blog to highlight the unique history that the gaming series and the console line have had ever since its arrival in the 1990s.
For the record, the fight game debuted not on consoles but in the arcades to start its legacy. That was back in 1994 when the arcade boom was still going on. However, when the PlayStation first launched, the first Tekken game wasn’t far behind. It was there two months after the PS1’s launch, wowing players with its advanced graphics, game mechanics, storyline, and more.
By the time the sequel came into play, the series was starting to “make its name known,” and many of the characters you know and love were starting to appear. It was in the second game that Jun Kazama arrived, and we all know the person she brought into the world. The sequel also brought in key modes and expanded the roster.
When 1998 hit and the third game arrived, it was time for Jin to shine, and he wasn’t alone in his arrival. Multiple fan-favorite characters debuted in this title, and the main storyline that will continue in the 8th entry was born via the clash of Heihachi, Kazuya, and Jin.
By the time the 4th and 5th entries debuted on PlayStation systems, things kept getting darker in the storyline, including Devil Jin arriving, while also refining the gaming mechanics to make it a truly intense fighting title.
