«Weird Al» Yankovic has released a teaser trailer from his upcoming biopic. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is slated for a fall 2022 release on The Roku Channel.
First announced back in January, the movie is a partnered production between Roku and Funny or Die. It stars Daniel Radcliffe as «Weird Al,» though no additional cast has yet been announced. Production began in February, coming from a script co-written by Yankovic and Eric Appel--and Appel, who has also directed for Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Office, directing. Appel also helmed the Funny or Die short about «Weird» Al over 10 years ago. Check out the trailer below.
«When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I'm very happy to say we're on schedule,» said Yankovic in a press release. «And I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.»
Yankovic jokes, but as Radcliffe himself said recently, he's done playing Harry Potter for now and is eager to branch out into different types of roles.
Outside of UHF, Weird Al also starred in his own television show, the short-lived The Weird Al Show on CBS. He's also guest-starred in countless animated programs and sitcoms becoming a pop culture icon along the way.
