Suffer the Night is a new horror game that is ready to scare players that enjoy 80s slasher movies. It combines a big dose of nostalgia with dread and jump-scares, and gamers can add it to their wishlist now on Steam.
The game was developed by Tainted Pact, whose repertoire consists entirely of horror games, so a certain level of expertise is expected. The publisher of Suffer the Night is Assemble Entertainment, which publishes a wide variety of genres from strategy survival games such as Endzone — A World Apart to choose your own adventure type text-based adventure games. Before video games could boast any kind of impressive graphics, text-based adventures were some of the first games to entertain players. The genre's roots go back all the way to the 1960s when teleprinters were connected to early mainframe computers. The user would type in their choice, and the answer was printed out on paper. The first Star Trek game still used this technique when it came out in 1971 and the genre was still highly popular in the 80s.

Suffer the Night starts with a creepy premise. In the small town of Sleepy Woods a storm is raging, and a mysterious envelope arrives at Stacey Liden's front door. The envelope holds a floppy disk, and it reveals a text-based dungeon crawler once Stacey places it into her Eldrixon personal computer. There starts the game's twist with a game within a game mechanic, combining a first-person horror with a text-based adventure. As Stacey progresses through the game, the line between fantasy and reality begins to blur. She will have to use her wits and cunning to survive through the night, otherwise, the terrifying stranger will break through to her world.
