The official trailer for Focus Features‘ upcoming Vatican-set thriller drama has been released, starring Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes as Cardinal Lawrence. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in select theaters starting on November 1, followed by its nationwide release on November 8.
“It follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting a new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence finds himself at the center of a conspiracy and discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of The Church.”

The trailer features the main cast, including Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Carlos Diehz, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O’Byrne, Merab Ninidze, Sergio Castellitto, and Isabella Rossellini. It is directed by Edward Berger from a screenplay written by Peter Straughan, based on Robert Harris’ best-selling novel. Berger is best known for directing Netflix’s 2022 acclaimed remake of All Quiet on the Western Front.
