Peloton's new Apple Watch app helps users track their Strive Score, monitor their heart rate, and close their rings—all in real time.
Start any class on Peloton's smart Bike, Bike+, Tread, or mobile app to begin recording fitness levels from your wrist. Heart rate monitoring continues for the duration of the session, allowing Peloton to calculate your personal Strive Score, which measures how much time you spend in each heart rate zone to track how hard you're working out.
"This will give you an easy way to compare your performance across all your workouts, including cycling, strength, HIIT, and bootcamp classes," the company says.
Using the Peloton app on your phone or tablet, open the More menu in the bottom right and tap Apple Watch > Set Up > Connect to Health App to open the iOS Health platform. Give Peloton access to your data by choosing "Turn On All," then return to the workout app and press "Done."
Once complete, open the Peloton app on your watch, allow push notifications, and get ready to sweat; at the start of any class, tap the pop-up on your wrist to commence tracking. "Our hope is that this will remove one more hurdle standing in the way of a satisfying and productive data-driven daily fitness routine," Peloton says.
The smart fitness equipment maker hit new heights at the onset of the pandemic, when people were craving an at-home workout experience. But since gyms began reopening last year, customer interest has failed to keep up with the firm's growth plans. Add to that a slate of PR headaches, and Peloton in February was forced to lay off 2,800 global employees and abort plans to build a US factory. John Foley also stepped down as CEO.
