A new teaser for the second Sword Art Online Progressive film, Sword Art Online Progressive – Scherzo of a Dark Dusk, was released on Sunday. The video was revealed at a stage presentation for the Sword Art Online franchise during the AnimeJapan 2022 event.
The sequel to last year's Aria of a Starless Night will open in Japan sometime this Fall. The film is expected to get an international release sometime later on, though nothing has been announced yet.

A video celebrating the Sword Art Online franchise’s 10th anniversary was also released during the event. A 10th-anniversary event will take place on November 6 in Tokyo. Another video released during the stage presentation revealed that the Japanese home video release of Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night will release on July 8.

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night premiered in Japan in October 2021, topping the box office in its first weekend. The film opened in over 40 countries around the world following its Japanese premiere, with Funimation screening the film in both standard and IMAX theaters in the United States and Canada on December 3, and Australia and New Zealand on December 9.
