A fan has edited a video reimagining Dune as an '80s sci-fi series, complete with a synth-fueled theme song. Denis Villeneuve's science-fiction epic, which came to theaters and HBO Max in October 2021, took home 6 Oscars during the 2022 awards season. It was adapted from Frank Herbert's classic 1965 novel of the same name and follows the exploits of Paul Atreides, the son of a Duke who is tasked by the Emperor with taking over the spice trade on the desert planet Arrakis. The star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya, who scored another 2021 hit in the blockbuster juggernaut Spider-Man: No Way Home.
While Dune's box office receipts were somewhat reduced by its simultaneous release on streaming, it was still a substantial hit. It grossed $400 million worldwide, making it the twelfth highest-grossing film of the year and earning it the sequel that was promised by the fact that Villeneuve only adapted the first half of the novel. Dune: Part Two, which is set to premiere on October 20, 2023, will feature the surviving characters from the original film (with a substantially larger role for Zendaya) alongside some new cast members that have yet to be announced. Although rumors have abounded, including one that Black Widow's Florence Pugh would be boarding the film, the filmmakers have remained tight-lipped.
