Giancarlo Esposito has been announced to star in and executive produce AMC's new drama, The Driver. The Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star has had a long-standing relationship with the network and received critical acclaim for his portrayal of drug kingpin Gus Fring across both series, winning the Critics' Choice Television Award in 2012. Now, it looks as if that relationship will continue after Better Call Saul's sixth and final season comes to an end this summer.
Esposito's casting and executive producer credit was announced by AMC in a press release, along with additional information regarding the show's production. Deadline reports that the show's first season will run for six episodes in 2023 and that the showrunner will be Theo Travers. Further casting details are yet to be announced. In a statement, Esposito said:
«I am over the moon excited, enthused, and inspired to be in collaboration with the stellar network and creative team of AMC! Thanks for believing in me. It’s great to be back home!”

The series is an adaptation of the 2014 British crime drama of the same name, starring The Walking Dead's David Morrissey as a taxi driver who becomes the driver for a criminal gang. Danny Brocklehurst, the co-creator of the original show, has developed AMC's adaptation with Sunu Gonera. In the American remake, set in New Orleans, Esposito will star as a taxi driver named Vince who agrees to become the chauffeur for a Zimbabwean gangster involved in human trafficking — turning his life upside down. The Driver is set to begin airing on AMC and AMC Plus in 2023.
