Thor: Love and Thunder star Christian Bale recently reflected on being mocked for his take on Batman. The venerable actor began his career as a child in popular films such as Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun (1987) and Kenneth Branagh's Henry V (1989). Although fans and critics were at first skeptical about the darker take on Batman, their fears were proven unfounded when Batman Begins was released to near-universal critical praise and box office success in 2005. Much of the acclaim was directed at the intense and emotional performance from Bale.
