One of the Black Adam producers explains why Dwayne Johnson's anticipated DCEU movie got delayed until October. When it comes to Black Adam's journey as a film, it has been a long one for the DCEU project. Johnson got cast as the iconic DC antihero all the way back in September 2014, when he was initially set to appear as the main foe in Shazam. However, by January 2017, Warner Bros. had decided to feature Black Adam in his own movie that would also depict his origin story before battling Zachary Levi's Shazam down the line.
Following the move to make a Black Adam solo film, it has taken several years for Johnson's DCEU debut to happen, but the movie will finally premiere in 2022. Black Adam, starring Johnson as Teth-Adam, follows the DC anti-hero during his days as a slave in Khandaq, a fictional North African country, before receiving the godlike abilities that turn him into the titular character from the comics. While the DC Universe knows of him as an antagonist, the DCEU property is reimagining Black Adam as an antihero. Black Adam was initially slated to hit theaters in December 2021 but got pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though it had been rescheduled for July 29, 2022, Warner Bros. had to tinker with the DCEU schedule again and pushed Black Adam back to October 21, 2022.
