Pierce Brosnan shares a closeup image of his Black Adam character, Doctor Fate. The James Bond star joins Dwayne Johnson in the long-awaited Shazam! spinoff Black Adam, an origin story of Teth-Adam (Johnson), the ancient Egyptian nemesis of Shazam. Joining Brosnan and Johnson in the film are Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher. Originally slated for release in July, complications with the heavy workload of visual effects companies and reshoots pushed Black Adam's release date back to October.
Brosnan will play Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate, one of the original founding members of the Justice Society of America, a collection of DC superheroes that predates the Justice League. Within the original comics, Nelson witnesses his archeologist father's death in an ancient tomb, and an old Mesopotamian god teaches him sorcery and bestows upon him an ancient magical helmet, amulet, and cloak. With his newfound powers, Nelson takes up the mantle of Doctor Fate and becomes a superhero. However, no details regarding the upcoming DCEU version of Doctor Fate's origins have been revealed.
