Ryan Gosling is poised to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the hit 1980s action series The Fall Guy. The multi-talented movie star made headlines back in 2020 for his casting in an unspecified stuntman movie helmed by David Leitch and distributed by Universal. The film would reportedly bear similarities to the American action/adventure series The Fall Guy, but was never confirmed to be an adaptation. If assumptions were correct, it would replace the long-developed Fall Guy adaptation with Dwayne Johnson as its leading man.
The most recent news surrounding the film suggests that Johnson and WWE Studio's project is, in fact, dead in the water in favor of Universal's version. Variety writes that Gosling is being given a prominent spotlight in Australian media for his casting in The Fall Guy movie adaptation, which will film on-location in Sydney. Paul Fletcher, Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, says, "We are pleased to welcome The Fall Guy down under."

Gosling adds The Fall Guy to his busy schedule, including franchise-hopeful The Gray Man, Barbie, Wolfman, and a pair of other films. He will presumably take on the role of Colt Seavers (played by Lee Majors in the 1980s series), a stuntman who moonlights as a bounty hunter. But while Gosling's involvement is confirmed, Leitch's name is suspiciously missing from the announcement. Universal is still behind The Fall Guy as their president of physical production, Jeff LaPlante, reciprocates Fletcher's enthusiasm about filming in Australia, so an update about the Deadpool 2 director's duties should hopefully come with time.
