Black Adam was originally announced to be in development back in 2007, with Dwayne Johnson starring as the titular anti-hero. With some missteps and false starts, it didn't look like it would happen, but with the success of the DCEU's Shazam, Black Adam is scheduled to hit theaters in October this year and at CinemaCon, new footage was revealed.
Although it was brief, the footage shows cut to the core of the character as Deadline describes the footage that was introduced by Johnson and shown for the presentation.
It opens on a spaceship flying against a snowy mountain landscape. Pierce Brosnan's Dr. Fate/Kent Nelson asks Black Adam «what are the powers that have been given to you?»
The character narrates his life story, explaining he was born into slavehood but reborn «as a god,» which we saw some hints of in the Shazam movie. There's footage of him destroying helicopters and armed militants. He even catches a missile mid-launch. At one point, Hawkman (played by Aldis Hodge) shows up to face Black Adam. «There are heroes and villains; heroes don’t kill people,» he screams.
Black Adam simply responds «Well I do.» It's been six months since we got our first look at Johnson in the suit and footage from the movie at the second DC Fandome and our second bit with DC's the World Needs Heroes showing the upcoming lineup from the DCEU.
Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson, Pierce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge, Quintessa Swindell, James Cusati-Moyer, Sarah Shahi, Noah Centineo, and is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.
Black Adam is scheduled for theaters on October 21, 2022.
